This is pretty much how I acquired and later became fluent in American Sign Language (ASL): watching and interacting with a native signer as he told stories; asked me questions; answered my questions; and introduced me to the world through his language, and to other language users as well. Now I'm an NAD-RID certified ASL/English interpreter. I've also successfully helped several others acquire the language through these same methods. I STRONGLY believe that this kind of thing is the best way to learn any language. We're on the right track!
